Circa 1999: Creative genius Tom Ford and Gucci’s CEO and whip-smart attorney, Domenico De Sole, are the kings of the fashion world. Opposite Italy, France’s Bernard Arnault, Louis Vuitton’s founder, is furious that he missed an opportunity to purchase Gucci five years prior, when the Italian luxury house was flailing and its price tag had been marked down dramatically.
Narrated by Ford, Krista’s award-winning script, “There Is Only One Gucci,” is based on the true story of the iconic Gucci family, the brand’s spectacular resurgence in 1995 and the fight to hold its place as the fashion world’s crown jewel.
Set on a three-point stage between London, Florence and Paris, the House's meteoric revival, led by Ford and De Sole, would soon roll out the red carpet for the knock-down-drag-out fight of Arnault’s nefarious takeover attempt.
A modern David vs. Goliath tale, TIOOG softens the legal battle by layering it with the love story between Ford and his partner, Richard Buckley, journalist and editor. The following excerpt details Buckley helping Ford process the aftermath of his landmark AW 1995 show, pictured above.
